El municipio de Swindon es una unidad administrativa independiente ( Autoridad Unitaria ) en el suroeste de Inglaterra y pertenece a la región del suroeste de Inglaterra .

La ciudad fue establecida en 1974 como un distrito de la provincia de Wiltshire y fue llamada inicialmente Thamesdown . Desde el 1 de abril de 1997, el distrito de Swindon ha sido independiente de Wiltshire y es solo una parte del condado con fines ceremoniales. La sede administrativa se encuentra en Swindon , pero el distrito también incluye el área circundante con las ciudades de Badbury, Chiseldon , Highworth , Liddington , Wanborough y Wroughton.
